CPD: Shootings, murders down in Chicago

The Chicago Police Department says the number of shootings and murders in the city is down.

During the first eight months of 2013, shootings have dropped 22 percent.

Murders are down 23 percent, and overall crime is down 15 percent, compared with last year.

During the month of August, there were 47 fewer shootings in the city and six fewer murders than in August of last year.

Chicago police also recovered more than 680 illegal guns.
