The son of a woman gunned down in a suburban church parking lot has been charged with her murder.
27-year-old Michael Zaky Bassaly has been charged with First Degree Murder for the murder of his mother 61-year-old Yvonne Zaky Bassaly, according to DuPage County State’s Attorney.
Yvonne was shot to death Thursday morning in southwest suburban Burr Ridge.
She was taken to Hinsdale Hospital just after 1 a.m. with a serious head wound, but doctors couldn’t save her.
Police investigated the scene in the parking lot of St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church and preschool on 79th St.
A gray Cadillac in the middle of the lot appeared to have bullet holes in the windshield.
Investigators say the victim’s son was with her at the time of the shooting and called 911.
Church leaders say the victim and her son were not members of St. Mark.
They say the gates are to the parking lot are left unlocked so members can have access to the church at all hours.
Pre-school classes at the church do not start until next week.
Morning services at the church were canceled for the day.
Zaky Bassaly is scheduled to appear in bond court Friday.
