In the heart of Chicago’s North Center neighborhood, a familiar name has found itself a permanent home: Johnny Casserole, which started as a delivery service several years ago, now offers its cozy comfort food from the corner of Damen and Irving.
“I’m a Midwesterner. I grew up with casserole, every other Midwesterner I know grew up with casserole, too,” says chef David Bryson.
Bryson is one of the chefs behind the classic and creative menu featuring dishes like the Erik Estrada or For Your Thighs Only (Mac-N-Cheese Johnny Style).
There’s a little something for everyone on the menu: soups, salads, vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, brunch through dinner and all with a little flare..
There is also the classics: chicken pot pie, tuna noodle and and a veggie lasagna.
“I always want a lot of vegetables in my dishes too,” Bryson said. “You’re trying to sneak health in to some of these so kids will eat it and moms will be happy.”
A perfect pairing with football, Johnny Casserole offers delivery or carryout, Cooked or uncooked, and single servings or full casseroles.
And most of the ingredients are sourced locally, including all the herbs in the backyard garden.
