Woman, 62, fatally shot at Burr Ridge church

A 62-year-old woman was shot to death this morning in southwest suburban Burr Ridge and sources say her son is being questioned by police.

The unidentified woman was taken to Hinsdale Hospital just after 1 a.m. with a serious head wound, but doctors couldn’t save her.

Police surrounded the parking lot of St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church and preschool on 79th St.

A gray Cadillac in the middle of the lot appears to have bullet holes in the windshield.

Investigators say the victim’s son was with her at the time of the shooting and called 911.  Police say this is an “isolated incident” and there is no threat to the public.

Church leaders say the victim and her son were not members of St. Mark.

They say the gates are to the parking lot are left unlocked so members can have access to the church at all hours.

Pre-school classes at the church do not start until next week.

Morning services at the church were canceled for the day.
