Driver scams student into $4200 ride to U of I

A cab driver scams a University of Illinois student out of thousands of dollars for a ride to campus.

The student, who is from China, was heading from O’Hare airport to this campus residence hall.

Police say a man at the airport told the student his bus wasn’t coming.

He reportedly offered the 18-year-old student a ride for a $1000 dollars then charged him $4200 when they got to town.

University officers are working with Chicago police to find the suspect.

I wonder if the scammer will still think of themselves as clever when they are arrested and charged with felony theft facing a long prison sentence?

Or at least lose his cab tag for a lenghthy period of time. We are talking about about a 6 hours of cab time round trip . But 4K is way to much. First the student has to show more evidence than he said she said.
