Man charged after beating cop with baseball bat

Tythia Thigpen, 29, has been charged with attempted first degree murder, after he hit a Chicago police officer in the head with a baseball bat.

It happened Saturday in the Englewood neighborhood.

The officer says he was trying to break up a street fight.

The officer was treated and released from the hospital over the weekend.

Thigpen is charged with one count of Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery to Peace Officer, Aggravated Battery use Deadly Weapon and Issuance of Warrant.

He will be in bond court later today.
