A 9-year-old girl drowned in Fox Lake, in northwest suburban Ingleside.
The girl was swimming near a boat launch, with other children, when she went under water Tuesday night.
Adults in the area jumped in and pulled her out of the lake.
She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her name has not been released.
“It can be pretty dangerous because there’s drop-offs,” said Lynn Soderlund, Stanton Point Subdivision President. “It’s a boat lodge, so there’s a drop off where the boats sink in and start their engines. It can go from two feet to five feet very quickly.”
