Authorties call off search of landfill for body missing baby

Authorities in Zion have stopped searching a landfill for a missing 5-month-old baby.  The boy has not yet been located.

5-month-old Joshua Summeries was reported missing Wednesday morning.

Joshua’s mother’s boyfriend Demetries Thorpe, 26, of the 2300 block of Galilee Avenue in Zion, was charged with first degree murder yesterday and  is being held on $5 million bond.

Thorpe told police that he put his hand over the boy’s mouth for about 15 seconds until he stopped breathing.  He then placed Joshua’s body in a backpack, took it down the alley and placed it in a garbage can, police said.

JoshuaSummeriesIn a statement released this evening, the Zion police chief said, “The Zion Police launched an exhaustive and daunting search of an area within the landfill, which it was thought held the specific refuse dumped from the dumpster Demetries Thorpe said he placed Joshua in.”

Authorities searched the landfill for four days “until the area where Joshua was thought to be, had been completely and meticulously cleared.”

The landfill search as been called off.  “Sadly, Joshua was not located,” the statement said.
