A 38-year-old man was picked up on an arrest warrant for the murder of a 16-year-old girl in 1993 after he was pulled over by police in LaPorte, Ind., officials said today.
Authorities said a cold-case investigation into the slaying of Rayna Rison led them Jason L. Tibbs, 38, of LaPorte.
Rison’s father had reported her missing on March 26, 1993 after she did not return home from her job at Pine Lake Animal Hospital in LaPorte, Indiana state police said.
Rison’s disappearance was featured by America’s Most Wanted. Her body was later found on April 27 of that year in a pond near Range Road in LaPorte, the release said. An autopsy determined Rison’s death was a homicide.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Al Williamson and LaPorte Police Detective Brett Airy had been investigating the murder for the last five years, police said.
Tibbs was being held in the LaPorte County Jail without bail.
