Evanston elementary school district’s superintendent resigns

The superintendent of Evanston’s elementary school district abruptly announced his resignation two weeks before the start of classes.

Hardy Murphy had been superintendent for 13 years.

He had two years left on his contract.

Murphy didn’t give a reason for his leaving.

The president of the school board says they were planning a new long-term strategy for the district and Murphy didn’t want to design a plan that he wouldn’t be around to implement.
