A woman who was seriously injured after a boy got behind the wheel of his father’s truck Thursday has died.
61-year-old Ruilan Zeng died this afternoon at Mt Sinai hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s report.
Zeng was struck by a truck in an alley at 44th and St Louis on the Near North Side this morning.
A13-year-old and his father were in the alley searching for metal. When his father stepped out from the truck, the teen accidentally bumped the gear shift and the vehicle started rolling forward.
The teen jumped into the driver’s seat to hit the brakes, but instead stepped on the gas.
The truck hit a garage, a 58-year-old woman as she was walking, and then another garage.
The father was cited for leaving a running vehicle unattended and for driving with a suspended driver’s license. No word yet on if charges will be upgraded.
