Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby takes over the Chicago River for a good cause

You come to downtown Chicago often enough, you’re likely to see a little bit of everything. Today it was the image of 45,000-60,000 bright yellow rubber ducks being dumped into the Chicago River from an open bridge on Columbus Drive. It was the annual fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Illinois. Visitors could pay $5 to “adopt” one of the rubber ducks being dropped, and if your lucky duck was one of the first to cross the finish line, you could win a new car or a trip to Mexico.

We were there for the festivities today and put together a short piece on the event. We’ll post it here after it airs on the WGN News at Five. If you’d like to learn more about the Ducky Derby or the Special Olympics of Illinois, you can do so one their website at soill.org.
