Mayor Emanuel wants to see cleaner streets in Chicago– so he’s backing a watered-down proposal to fine drivers who toss trash out of the windows of their vehicles.

21st Ward Alderman Howard Brookins’s original proposal would fine drivers $1,500 for littering and allow the city to tow their vehicles.

The new ordinance would give the city the “discretion” to tow and raise the minimum fine for littering from $50 to $150.
