Installing a dimmer switch is a pretty simple electrical project as North side handyman Michael Goldstein will tell you, if you aren’t confident in what you’re doing, it’s a good idea to call in a professional. If you are ready to give it a shot, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Phillips and flat head screwdrivers
  • Electrical tape
  • Dimmer switch

  1. Remove cover plate on old switch
  2. Cut power at breaker & disconnect old switch
  3. Connect power and light wires to the matching wires on new dimmer with wire caps,
  4. Screw switch back into wall and replace cover plate
  5. Restore power at breaker and test dimmer

This is one easy DIY project. It’ll take 15 minutes and your only cost is the dimmer for about $20.
