A skydiver from Elgin was killed in a group jump near Ottawa.

Stephanie Eggum died Thursday practicing for a world record women’s jump.

Her family says she was with about 50 skydivers as they linked hands and plunged headfirst into a vertical dive.

Eggum’s father thinks her parachute malfunctioned after the group separated in midair.

Officials say she deployed her reserve chute, but the altitude was too low.

Eggum, who was 32, was pronounced dead at the scene.
