6-hour roof standoff ends with man in custody

By Adam Sege Tribune reporter

A man believed to be suicidal was taken into custody this morning after a six-hour standoff on the roof of a Southwest Side building, authorities said.

Police called a barricade response about 11:15 after arriving at a building in the 6000 block of South Harlem Avenue, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

A suicidal man was refusing to leave the roof of a bottled water distribution company where he used to work, according to a police source.

Shortly before 5:25 a.m., the man was taken into custody without incident from the roof of the building, police said.
