The long journey is now over for a massive electromagnet destined for Fermilab in the Western Suburbs.
Hundreds of on-lookers watched early Friday as the 50-foot circular electromagnet arrived in Batavia from Long Island, New York.
The 3,200 trip took 34 days via a truck, barge and then truck again at a cost of $3 million dollars.
But Fermilab officials say it was worth it, since building one on site would have cost ten times as much.
The magnet will not be used until it’s new building is completed in February.
