3 dead after bus carrying teens crashes in Indianapolis
(CNN) — Three people were killed late Saturday afternoon after a passenger bus flipped over in Indianapolis, a city police spokesman said.
Two others were helicoptered to an area hospital, Officer Michael Hewitt said. Eight others were transported to local hospitals, he added.
The Indianapolis Fire Department, on its Twitter feed, said the bus was carrying teens from a local Baptist church on their way home from a camp.
In addition to the three killed, five passengers were trapped, according to the fire department, which noted that children and adults were among the casualties.
“Please pray for all involved,” the fire department tweeted.
Twelve ambulances and four helicopters were dispatched to the scene in Indianapolis’ capital and most populated city, according to the department.
Video from around 5:30 p.m. showed the bus on its side and teetering on a road barrier while first responders massed nearby.
By then, all the casualties had been sent to local hospitals and family members were being asked to go to the church, Colonial Hills Baptist, where the bus had been heading.
