Ovarian Cancer Facts
Ovarian cancer is the second most common gynecologic cancer. The most common type occurs when abnormalities in the cells on the surface of the ovaries cause out of control growth, which leads to cancer.

Who is most at risk?
Women who have never had children or who were pregnant after 30
Women who have never used birth control pills
Women with a family history of breast, endometrial (uterine), ovarian, or colon cancers
Women who carry the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes
Late menopause (after age 55)
Obesity

Prevention
Pregnancy and breastfeeding are protective
Using oral contraceptives
Preventive surgery if you have a documented genetic abnormality

Warning signs *Often nonspecific*
Unexplained bleeding
Pelvic/abdominal pain
Bloating/increased abdominal girth
Unexplained weight loss
Urinary incontinence/frequency
Constipation
Fatigue
