A 77-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident Wednesday on his birthday.

Police are looking for the driver who took his life.

Security video from a store near the intersection of 83rd and Racine shows Arthur Johnson as he crosses the street. Johnson apparently sees the car coming and tries to avoid it –but, the driver doesn’t stop.

Family members say Johnson was taking the same walk he did every day to buy his morning paper.

Witnesses were able to give police a good description of the car in the case.

They’re looking for a black Mercedes C230 made between 2002 -2005.

They say it has damage to its passenger-side windshield and driver-side hood.

Call police if you have any information.

It looks like this guy just kept running across the street even when he saw the car coming. It sucks for this driver who probably didn't even see him.

The gentleman clearly misjudged how fast the car was moving and how fast he could run to dodge it. It's difficult to tell from the video if the car was speeding. If the driver had stopped and attempted to help this gentleman, then it probably would have been considered an accident. The fact that the driver did not stop makes it a horrible crime. Like his niece said, how does this driver live with his/herself? I feel horrible for this man's family. My thoughts are with them.

Arthur was my cousin. Anyone with information should tell the police so that this can be solved. Arthur was a senior citizen just trying to get his newspaper. WGN aired this because it was a hit and run not because of the color of his skin. I hope none of you ever see your family member hurt or killed like this. And I hope you would want help to get it solved. Arthur was important to many people and he did good things. Never assume you know anyone based solely on the color of their skin. The angry comments should be directed at the driver not the victim. Everyone, please be safe and alert in traveling.
