7 rescued from NW side fire
Chicago firefighters rescued seven people trapped in a burning three-story apartment building early Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of North Harlem Avenue, according to Chicago Fire Department media affairs.
One family said they woke up to find fire at their front and back doors. They say smoke detectors did not start working until it was too late.
The fire was quickly extinguished but the building is now unsafe for many of the residents.
One of the responding firefighters was injured in a fall and was taken to an area hospital in good condition.
