Monday night, officials in Evergreen Park rejected the ban after hearing from gun advocates at a village board meeting.
The proposal would have banned semi-automatic rifles with large-capacity magazines.
Officials also rejected the ban in north suburban Waukegan.
Suburbs with more than 25,000 people have until Friday to ban assault weapons within their borders, due to a provision in the state’s new concealed carry law.
Homewood, Hazel Crest, Calumet Park, North Chicago, and Highland Park have all passed assault weapons bans.
