Chicago Police in multi-million dollar overtime hole
The Chicago Police Department is in an overtime hole amounting to more than $10 million.
This is due largely to overtime expenditures of more than $21 million in April and May.
The police department spent $42.5 million on overtime through May, before summer temperatures drove people outside and crime increased.
A Police Union representative said overtime is a band-aid solution to a major manpower problem that is solved by hiring more police officers.
