Illinois State Police say three SUVs and two cars were stopped in traffic in the far two right lanes of Interstate 94 in Gurnee, Ill. The accident occurred when a Western Star semi-truck was unable to reduce speed and struck the rear of a Jeep Cherokee and a Honda Civic, causing a chain reaction. Of the remaining 13 patients, which include both adults and children, two remain in serious condition and 11 are in good condition.

At least one of the critical patients was airlifted to Lutheran General in Park Ridge, a Condell spokesman said.
