Stevenson H.S. hoax letter offers students extra credit for cash

A Northwest suburban high school is not selling extra credit to students — administrators say the school has been the victim of a prank.

Some students at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire received a hoax letter through email and social media Wednesday.

It was written on school letterhead and announced a pilot program for freshmen.  $20 could buy five extra-credit points and $35 would allow a student to skip a test.

School officials post a note on the school’s Facebook page saying, “This is a hoax, and is not a Stevenson letter, program, or from a Stevenson employee.  This is not something the district would ever endorse.”

Officials do not know who sent the hoax letter.
