The body of a man was found in the Des Plaines River near Maywood Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The body of the unidentified man was found near the Lake Street bridge over the river, just east of First Avenue in Maywood, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Medical examiner’s investigators were dispatched to the scene about 5:20 p.m., after the body had been found.
People who were walking along the bank of the river, fishing, noticed the body today and alerted authorities, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Allen Ulcigrai told media at the scene. Illinois State Police were dispatched to the area about 4 p.m., said State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond, in an email.
The body was found about 12 feet from the east shore, Ulcigrai said.
When asked about details regarding whether the person might have been someone reported missing, or what the person’s age and sex might be, or how long the body might have been in the water, Ulcigrai said the details were “under investigation.”
