A newspaper and fruit vendor is shot and killed at a busy intersection in Chicago’s Washington Heights neighborhood Tuesday morning.

23-year-old Terrence Graves was shot at a BP gas station at 99th and Halsted around 5:30am. Police believe two men approached Graves and opened-fire. More than 12 shots were fired, and hit Graves in the head and throat.

Graves worked in the area for about a year and a half, but a co-worker says gang members confronted him on Monday.

“They said, ‘This is my corner, not your corner.’ He got into it with them, the guy came back, and this is what happened,” said his colleague.

Graves’ family says he was a hard worker and stayed clear from trouble.

He leaves behind a fiance and a five year-old daugher.

“Now my focus is to, ‘What am I gonna do with my baby?’ How can I go home and explain to my five year-old daughtet that her father is dead,” said his fiance.

No arrests have been made.
