Tuesday’s 68-deg Chicago high temp made this the coolest July 2 here in 73 years! It was 16-deg below normal and equiv to the “normal” high on May 8.
But there’s quite a change on the way!
Warmth and humidity, including temps near 90, take over this weekend.
We’re currently thinking in terms of highs of 86 Friday, 89 Saturday, 90 Sunday and 91 Monday–numbers we’ll be updating on our WGN News at 9PM Tuesday night.
The development of a sprawling Bermuda high is behind our prediction of warming. This is also to produce blazingly hot temps well into the 90s in much of the East while heat continues out West too. There have been 381 record high temps recorded since a week ago Monday over 21 states, so our chill here in the Midwest is at variance with what’s happening over so much of the U.S. Check out this predicted surface map off the Weather Service’s GFS model which clearly depicts the sprawling Bermuda high which is to take shape.
