South Side St. James Catholic Church to be demolished today

After months of petitions and an appeal to the Vatican, a South Side church will be demolished today.

St. James Catholic Church has stood through more than 130 years of Chicago history.

But the poor condition of the church has made renovation difficult.

In a letter, Francis Cardinal George said the church was unsafe and had to be taken down.
