The Cubs have decided to cut ties with struggling right handed pitcher Carlos Marmol for the time being and optioned minor league outfielder Brian Bogusevic for assignment beginning Tuesday night.

Bogusevic will wear number 66 when he takes the field against the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game series.

Bogusevic, 29, joins the Cubs after batting .319 (83-for-260) with 14 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs, 32 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 78 games with Iowa this season.

Marmol, 30, started his career as a catcher for the Cubs before being converted to pitcher. A National league All-Star in 2008, Marmol accumulated 117 saves, the third most in team history.

However, Marmol’s ERA skyrocketed to a paltry 5.86 with a 2-4 overall record this season.

Marmol leaves the Cubs after eight seasons.
