The first weekend of summer was a violent one.
At least six people were killed in shootings across Chicago. Sunday alone left two people dead and four others injured.
Police said two men were sitting in a broken down car in the 1500 block of East 76th Place about 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, when three people approached them and opened fire.
One of them, a 22-year-old man, collapsed after being shot in the side as he fled. He was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
He was identified as Justin Jackson, of the same block where the shooting happened, a representative for the medical examiner’s office said.
The other man, 26, is being treated for a graze wound to his head and shoulder at Jackson Park Hospital.
The three suspects were seen running from the crime scene and a “flash message” with their descriptions was sent over police radio, police said. Soon after police took three people into custody outside a White Castle restaurant at 79th Street and Stony Island Avenue, a little more than three blocks from the crime scene, and confiscated a gun, police said.
No arrests have been made in that shooting.
