FDA drops age limit on Plan B-One Step

planbThe FDA has officially lifted the age restriction for the Plan B emergency contraceptive.

Now any woman who is able to bear children can get the Plan B-One Step (levonorgestrel) contraceptive without a prescription.

This comes after a federal court ordered the FDA to make the pill available to anyone without restrictions.

Critics of the decision said lifting prescription requirements ignores the rights of parents and could endanger girls.

Plan B-One Step is a type of emergency contraception that drastically reduces the chance of pregnancy after a woman has engaged in unprotected sex.
