Drunk boater who hit and killed boy to be sentenced
The man who was drunk when he drove his speedboat over a 10 year-old boy and killed him is expected to be sentenced Friday.
David Hatyina ran over Tony Borcia on Petite Lake, which is near Lake Villa, last July. Hatyina pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI in April.
Hatyina delivered a very emotional address to the courtroom on Friday.
“I feel so badly for the family of Antonio. I know their pain will never go away. But, it is also etched within me that will be there forever. I hope by entering a guilty plea I have shown the Borcia family, and your Honor, that I do take responsibility for what I did. So help me God, I am sorry,” said Hatyina.
“I can’t imagine the pain I have caused for the entire Borcia family, especially the parents and siblings.”
He added this tragedy has taught him the importance of fatherhood, and will never use alcohol or drugs again.
He’s facing up to 14 years in prison.
