Chef Charlie Trotter accused of selling counterfeit wine
Chef Charlie Trotter is being sued in federal court.
He’s accused of selling two collectors from New York a bogus bottle of wine.
According to a lawsuit filed Thursday, the collectors bought the wine from Trotter before his Chicago restaurant closed last summer. They paid more than $46,000 for a vintage bottle from Trotter’s wine cellar.
The collectors say when they tried to have it insured, they where told it was counterfeit. They’re seeking $75,000.
