Severe storm potential today through tonight: Forecast
A warm and muggy day has a high potential of becoming stormy with the threat of severe of weather.
The chance of showers and thunderstorms firing up along a warm front draped across the region will grow as the day progresses. Storms will become likely late in the afternoon and for the evening hours.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana under a Moderate Risk of severe storms. The biggest threats are damaging winds and large hail, and isolated tornadoes will be possible as well. The threat of widespread damage from straight line winds is setting up to be a great possibility.
Heavy rainfall is also possible this afternoon through tonight. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the region from Wed 4PM-Thu 4AM.
Cooler and drier conditions are forecast for Thursday and Friday as sunshine returns to the area.
