1 hurt during morning rush accident on I-88
One person suffered minor injuries in an accident that disrupted traffic on Interstate 88 near Farnsworth Avenue in west suburban Aurora this morning, police said.
The accident happened about 6:20 a.m., according to Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Paul Carlos. A vehicle heading eastbound on I-88 near mile marker 120 drove across the median for unknown reasons and struck a tractor trailer heading westbound. Both ended up on the side of the road.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle was transported by a Flight for Life helicopter to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove with non life-threatening injuries and is in good condition, Carlos said. The driver of the truck was not injured, he said.
All lanes are open to traffic, according to Carlos, but police remain on the scene, where a semi tractor trailer involved in the crash remained in a ditch as of about 8:30 a.m.
Traffic on both sides of the expressway had been stopped for a time, and it took about 20-30 minutes before some started to get through the area. It took an hour before all lanes were open, Carlos said.
