Illinois Republicans have selected a new party chairman after a long closed-door meeting.
State committeeman and lobbyist Jack Dorgan , 53, as the state’s new GOP chairman.
Dorgan, a village trustee in Rosemont, served as the chief political strategist for former Mayor Donald Stephens.
After a disappointing election performance by Republicans last November, party members consider Dorgan a consensus candidate with the potential to bring Illinois conservatives and moderates together.
Post-election in-fighting regarding former chairman Pat Brady’s support of a bill to legalize gay marriage led to his resignation earlier this month.
Brady said he made the endorsement personally, not as Republican chairman.
