IL House passes concealed carry legislation

Illinois’ House passed concealed carry legislation Friday, sending it to the Senate despite strong objections from Governor Quinn and Mayor Emanuel.

A Supreme Court order requires lawmakers to craft concealed carry laws by June 9th.

Senate President John Cullerton denounced the measure passed in the House — which would override home-rule restrictions on weapons, effectively ending local laws like Chicago’s assault weapons ban.

Governor Quinn promised to block its passage in the Senate.
