The Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest travel periods on the roads.
Friday will be the day with the heaviest traffic. With that in mind, Illinois State Police want drivers to know officers will be watching you.
Officials are pushing for zero fatalities statewide this Memorial Day Holiday.
Over the same weekend in 2012 State Police issued nearly 3,200 speeding tickets, made 177 arrests for DUI and issued about 1,500 seat belt citations.
Officers will be stationed on all stretches of the state’s 27,000 miles of state roads and highways.
Police remind motorists that drinking and driving is the number one cause of traffic crashes and fatalities on the road.
