Severe storms hit Chicago area causing fires, damage

A series of severe storms rolled through the Chicago area overnight causing fires and damage.

On 27th and South Central Avenue, lighting struck a family home. People inside that home were able to get out as fire crews arrived.

In suburban Darien, a lighting strike damaged the roof of a town-home, and sparked a fire. Two units were damaged, no one was hurt.

In LaSalle County, high winds knocked over utility poles. It’s unclear if any outages were caused.
