Thousands of Chicago teachers and supporters are expected to hit the streets of the city’s South and West side Saturday to begin a 3-day march and rally against CPS school closures.
The Chicago Teachers Union and local community groups have planned the march to begin in neighborhoods where schools are slated to close. They will march by many of the 54 targeted schools and end with a rally Monday afternoon at City Hall.
The union opposes all of the proposed closings. They say they have petitions signed by citizens calling for a moratorium on school closings. They plan to deliver the petitions to Mayor Emanuel Monday afternoon.
The board of education will hold their final vote on the proposed closings on Wednesday.
