The Mets come to town having dropped 6 of 7, but young phenom Matt Harvey is on the mound.  He’s been lights out so far and is on the cover of this week’s Sports Illustrated.  Edwin Jackson goes for the Cubs as he looks for his second consecutive win.  The old adage is, just win series and the Cubs did that vs. Colorado and really need to do that against the Mets this weekend.  They have a tough trip to Pittsburgh and Cincinnati next week and if they have any shot of sniffing .500 soon, they have to keep piling up wins against teams with losing records.  The Cubs have been below .500 for much of the season so far, but we’ve seen some pretty positive signs lately in the rotation (which has been the strength all year), the bullpen (Kevin Gregg has settled things down nicely in the 9th inning) and the offense (especially at home).  When you are 6, 7, 8 games under .500 it is hard to remember sometimes that it’s a long season.  But a couple good weeks and all the sudden you’re at break even and not as buried in the standings as you think.

I loved this line by Len during the Mets game: “Matt Harvey, you are a madman. I wanna party with you.” My guess is that Len is a fan of the 1981 movie “Stripes,” in which Bill Murray said this: “Lee Harvey, you are a madman. When you stole that cow, and your friend tried to make it with the cow. I want to party with you, cowboy.” Keep it up, Len. I want to hear you work in a line from Ghostbusters into the game today. ;-)

Been a Cub fan since 1939. Watch WGN each and every game, if not live on tape. I have posted an article on Google titled, My Love Affair With Army Baseball. Regular poster on the CCO. If you get a chance give it a glance.
