The Cubs return to Washington tonight for the first time since a 4-game sweep last year that was memorable for all the wrong reasons. The Nationals out-hit the Cubs 53-25, out-scored them 31-9 and hit a whopping 15 home runs in a series that got pretty chippy at the end with batters getting thrown at, coaches yelling at each other and benches clearing.
The Nationals would go on to win 98 games before bowing out in the division round of the playoffs. They returned most of their core again this season with huge expectations surrounding them. And they’ve gotten off to a slow start. In fact, before rattling off 6 of 7 recently, they were under .500. Their offense hasn’t done much and they have committed a bunch of errors on defense. But their pitching is so good on paper, they should be in the race until the end and I still would probably take them over the Braves in the East.
Should be a fun weekend as the Cubs look for some revenge.
