Man charged in shooting death of Columbia College student

Bond has been denied for a convict accused of gunning down a Columbia College student.

26-year-old Jerome Brown is charged with the murder of Kevin Ambrose in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

The 19-year-old Ambrose was killed Tuesday while waiting to walk a friend home from the 47th Street “L” stop. Ambrose managed to run through a vacant lot before collapsing in a nearby alley. He later died at the hospital.

Police say Ambrose was not the intended target.

Brown was picked up in a light-colored sedan, which matched the description of the car used in the shooting. Brown was on parole for robbery at the time.
