A young Chicago girl with difficult medical circumstance had a wish come true today, when she met a special member of the Chicago Police Dept.

Father Dan Brandt, a chaplain for the Chicago Police Dept, set up the special meeting between 11-year-old Kira and horses from the mounted unit.  Her dad is a sergeant and knew this would be a bright spot in his daughter’s  life.

Kira has a rare condition called Rohadd that she shares with only 74 other people in the world.  It affects her autonomic nervous system that controls her heart, digestive system, breathing and blood pressure.  She needs constant medical support just to stay alive.

Kira has been at advocate children’s hospital in Park Ridge since December. She’s been outside only four times in 140 days.  Someone with her condition usually lives into their teens.  Kira’s mother and father say her health continues to deteriorate and they don’t know how long she’ll be with them.
