Cost-cutting Spirit Airlines has found another cost to cut – toll-free customer service.

The airline has quietly changed its 800 number to an (801) area code.

Airlines spokesperson Misty Pinson said, “Our new numbers are allowing us to keep our costs low, which we in turn continue to pass along to our customers by way of the ultra-low fares they have come to know and love.”

Known for generating hefty revenues by creative new passenger fees, Spirit last year announced its $100 baggage fee for passengers who either wait until the last minute to check a suitcase or to pay to bring a carry-on bag into the cabin.
