Thieves hit Elgin officer, lead police on high-speed chase to Wisconsin

A pair of thieves who hit a police officer with their car in the western suburbs, took off on a high speed 125-mile police chase that ended in Wisconsin.

It started at 2:45 a.m. Saturday morning in Elgin.

Police were responding to a burglary call when they arrived at the Sam’s Club at Randall and Bowes Road.

The suspects got into a silver Chevy pickup truck and sped off, hitting an officer in the process. It isn’t exactly clear how the second officer sustained the injury.

The chase traveled through Hanover Park, then on the Elgin O’Hare Expressway, then Interstate 290, took that into the city and took the Kennedy Expressway north to the Edens, and took that interstate all the way to Racine County.

The silver Chevy pickup attempted to exit Interstate 94 about 15 miles north of the Illinois border at Durand Avenue in Racine County about 4:15 a.m.

Much of the chase was between 80 and 90 miles per hour, police said.

Police reportedly found several car batteries inside the pickup truck, stolen from the Sam’s Club in Elgin.

The two police officers in Elgin were treated at a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
