Monk accused of attempted kidnapping ordered back to jail

A Benedictine monk was ordered back to jail, after being accused of trying to abduct a teenage girl in north suburban Antioch.

Thomas Chmura, 57, who resides at St. Benedict’s Abbey in Benet Lake, Wis., is charged with felony attempted child abduction and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Antioch police said Chmura tried to lure a 14-year-old girl into his car on April 25.

He reportedly also admitted to offering rides to other teenage girls in recent weeks, for the purpose of sexual gratification.

A judge ordered Chmura back to jail Thursday, after children were found close to where he was staying, which is a violation of his bond.

Goes to show you that no one is exempt from the law, especially when it comes to children. Thank God.
