Boy, 5, accidentally kills sister with gun he received as gift

A 5-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his little sister with a gun he received as a gift.

2-year-old Caroline Starks was taken to the hospital in Cumberland County, Kentucky Monday, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say it was an accident and the children’s mother was home at the time.

The gun used in the incident is called a Crickett.

They’re child-sized rifles specifically marketed to kids.

Authorities say the little boy was used to shooting the gun and it was kept in a corner of their home.

The family did not realize a shell had been left in the chamber.

What kind of fools are these parents? Why would they even buy their child a rifle, even though it is marketed for children? Now look at the parents suffering. What do you think the long range effects it will have on the brother. We are trying to keep the guns out of the young peoples hands and here the parents are buying a rifle for a 5 year old. May the child rest in peace. I will definitely pray for this family. They need some serious help.

The parents should, no MUST, be charged with the murder. Would they leave the pick-up door open and keys in the ignition? Would they leave a box marked "Rat Poison" on the kitchen table?

In a society where 'childrens rifles' are an actual thing, you are kind of asking for it.

What a shame but this is what happens when you have guns in your house. Statistics show that this is more likely to happen than you shooting a thief.

Don't make this about the gun. The parents are the stupid one's that did not lock the gun away like they should. Would you leave a child alone with an ope bottle of pills? I'm sure statistics show that children are more likely to overdose on pills if they are in the house too. You're argument is just ignorant!

there is no problem with getting a gun for a child but the parents need to be responsible! These parents were idiots as they left the gun sitting in the corner of the room loaded. They claim they didn’t know it was loaded, that’s no excuse! You have a 5 year old and had a 2 year old which would still be around if you weren’t such irresponsible parents!

These parents are crazy. With backgrounf checks, a 5 year old wouldn't have a gun.

Oh come on. The 2 yr. old was probably attacking the 5 yr. old. He was only standing his ground.

    From Switzerland.
My grandfather was 5 when he killed his little 3 years old sister with a gun. This happened in Switzerland near 1900. At that time the social climate was very bad here. He did not recover for the rest of his life until hen died at 71.
I didn't know it when a was small but granpa allways react very strong when my brothers were playing with sticks of wood saying "boom, boom"
My mother told me about this family secret when i was 18 and then i realised the influence it had on nexts generation, even for those who didn't know anything about the story.
Sorry for my bad english, but when i've heard about this little Christian, i just feel sad for him and sorry for the stupid inability of his parents.
