Chicago parking meter lease changes coming

Mayor Rahm Emanuel may announce some changes in Chicago’s controversial parking meter contract today.

Mayor Richard Daley enraged drivers by leasing the parking meters to a private company before he left office; since then the cost of street parking has skyrocketed, and meter enforcement has expanded to 24 hours a day.

Furthermore, the holder of the parking meter lease is demanding more money from the city, to recoup revenues it loses during special events and routine street maintenance.

Daley and his crew hid their process from the public, ignored rules, railroaded the City Council, and screwed the taxpayers on the parking meter lease deal. He should be in jail

    My wallet is itching.

Bet any "changes" will benefit the chitty, not the consumer.

The news is never positive regarding this stuff. This continues to be a hostile city. I have stopped coming downtown and try to direct any busines/entertainment to the suburbs where parking is FREE!
